Alliance for Science Ghana and the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) last Monday held a screening of the science movie FOOD EVOLUTION at the WACCI conference room at the University of Ghana. The event was accompanied with a discussion on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and its future in food production in Africa.

Directed and produced by American Academy Award nominee Scott Hamilton Kennedy, FOOD EVOLUTION challenges public fear of genitically modified foods and explores the ways science has been used and abused in public discourse surrounding genetic engineering and modification of food.

The event saw over 70 masters and PhD students from WACCI as well as other students and individuals.

Scott who was the guest speaker in his speech via Skype encouraged the students to use the movie in promoting good science. He also advised that they become good ambassadors of the technology in their home countries and communities.

A lecturer with the centre, Dr. Agyemang Danquah also added that students share with their communities the importance of Biotechnology.

Students who were present expressed their delight in the event and encouraged organisers to do more using the video to propagate benefits of Biotechnology .
